Two SP600 LimeSpreaders & SX-A Auger Systems

We recently caught up with Jonny from D. Redmond & Son Lime Contracting, to find out how the firm is getting on with their two SP-600s complete with SX-A Auger system. With the two lime spreaders bought back in March 2022 - the business has not looked back since.

Dessie started lime contracting around 50 years ago, with the business expanding and continuously moving with the industry. Jonny states how this was a key factor in upgrading from basic lime spreaders to the SX- Auger system,

‘The industry keeps moving forward – we had to change something to stay ahead of the competition’

When it got to the point of changing spreaders, the father son duo had considered other brands but decided to go with SpreadPoint due to the company’s already established strong background in agricultural engineering, with Dessie commenting

‘We’ve had Kane trailers for over 40 years, we knew the sister company would have good engineering and be well made’

The fact that SpreadPoint is local to Redmond’s also factored in the decision making process and has proved valuable to the team, with both men commending SpreadPoint’s back-up, ‘If we need a bit of advice, whether its 8am or 8pm, someone will pick up the phone to point us in the right direction’

But why choose the auger system? Jonny comments that ‘The design of the booms themselves drew us towards the SpreadPoint boom system – one key thing standing out was the capless ends of the booms, meaning if the odd stone goes through it’s thrown out again with no hassle’

Dessie added ‘We spread lime near motorways – it was rare to get a day with no wind for the disc spreader, but

with the auger system there’s no dust so we can get out anytime’

Redmond’s customers have seen a real benefit since they introduced the spreaders accompanied with SX-A auger system, Jonny states ‘We used to get endless complaints with the ordinary disc spreader, the usual of turning washing and houses white. Now we don’t hear anything negative. In fact,

we’ve taken on more work than before and we don’t have a bad backlog to deal with, as we can get out in most weather conditions’

Jonny went on to say ‘Once you have the auger system you just would not go back. We can get into fields we were never allowed to before, one in particular that wraps around a church,

if we had no booms there’d be no chance of getting the field spread’
